Year 4

Autumn 2
Welcome to Year 4!
Miss Williams
Mrs Harding
Mrs McCroakam

Welcome back to a new term! I hope you all had a pleasant break.
We have a jam packed last half term coming up with lots of exciting things to look forward to! On Friday
17th of November we have our class assembly where we will be sharing all the things we have learnt about our last topic ‘Chocolate’. This new topic is all about the natural disasters people around the world live through. We will be find out about volcanoes, tornados, earthquakes and tsunamis!

In Maths we will start off the half term by re-capping written methods we have learnt to add and subtract. We will then move onto using other methods to divide and multiply. Lastly we will be looking at length and perimeter.

Please continue to encourage your child to practice their times tables, focusing on the 12, 11, 9, 6 and 7's. The children have all been given their log in details for Times Tables Rockstars (in their homework books). Please encourage your child to go on this as much as possible, I can track their progress via the teacher log in:

In English we are starting the new half term by looking at the genre of explanation texts. This ties into our topic of ’Extreme Earth’ as we will be writing about volcanoes and how they come about. In guided reading, we will be exploring the book Journey to Jo’burg.

Later on in the term, we will be writing non-chronological reports.

Our PE day is Wednesday this half term. We are going to be focusing on Hockey skills this term. We will be going outside as much as possible this term so please ensure your child has some suitable trousers and a long sleeved jacket.

In Year 4 the children go swimming on a Tuesday, we walk them down to Kirkstall swimming baths. On this day please ensure that the children come with a full swimming kit, including a towel. Goggles can be brought along but they are not necessary.

Mrs Pickard will still be teaching French and R.E on a Thursday afternoon.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of
all children, and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
