Year 4

Summer 1
Welcome to Year 4!
Miss Williams
Ms Davies
Miss Lewitt

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a lovely break this Easter!

We have a very exciting topic this half term, we wil be entering 'A World of Pure Imagination' as our topic is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! We will be exploring the world of chocolate and will hopefully be watching the remake of the film in class to compare it to the book. As it is a PG rated film we require consent for your child to watch it. On this half terms newsletter, sent out on Tuesday 18th April, there is a consent slip which can be cut off, signed and returned to school as soon as possible please.

In Maths we will start off the half term by re-capping place value, adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers and rounding, specifically focussing on money. We will then move onto looking at interpreting bar graphs, converting between fractions and decimals and looking at decimal numbers in greater depth.

Please continue to encourage your child to practice their times tables, focusing on the 12, 11, 9, 6 and 7's. The children have all been given their log in details for Times Tables Rockstars (in their homework books). Please encourage your child to go on this as much as possible, I can track their progress via the teacher log in:

In English we are starting the new half term by looking at traditional poetry. We will then move onto looking at our key book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in greater detail. Finally we will be writing persuasive letters to Cadburyto persuade them to buy our new design of chocolate bar!

We will be starting our new topic of 'States of Matter' this half term. Here the children will study the properties of liquids, solids and gases and the arrangement of particles in each state. We will also be looking at changes of state and what happens during the water cycle.

Our P.E day is now back to Monday. Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school, children must also ensure they have suitable sports foot wear, trainers or pumps, due to health and safety they will not be able to participate if they don't have them in school.
Our swimming day is Tuesday so please make sure that the children have a full swimming kit on these days.

Mrs Pickard will still be teaching French and R.E on a Thursday afternoon.
Mrs Shakespeare will also be coming in to teach recorders ever Tuesday morning.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of
all children, and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
