This term we will be continuing with our topic - The Romans. We will be focussing on Roman Architecture as well as Roman Food! We will also be very busy rehearsing for our class assembly and our Year 3 /4 Production!
In Maths we will start off the half term by re-capping telling the time both in 12 hour and 24 hour format and answering problem solving questions that involve converting between different measures of time. We will then move onto fractions and finding fractions of amounts. Finally, we will look at co-ordinates and translating a shape across a co-ordinate quadrant. We will be linking our study of co-ordinates to our Roman topic and seeing where our Roman army needs to go to get to its targetPlease continue to encourage your child to practice their times tables, focusing on the 11, 9, 6 and 7's. The children ahve all been given their log in details for Times Tables Rockstars (in their homework books). Please encourage your child to go on this as much as possible, I can track their progress via the teacher log in: https://ttrockstars.com/
In English we are starting the new half term by looking at the genre of recounts. The children will first analyse the features of a recount and write their own about a fear they had from when they were younger. We will then move onto the newspaper format of a recount and complete a report of Boudicca’s rebellion. Our last genre for this half term will be stories from other cultures where we will focus on the book Journey to Jo’burg.Science
The children will continue to briefly look at electricity to finish off this topic. We will then start looking at some famous ‘scientists and inventors’ linked to the Y4 science curriculum. We will learn about inventors such as Lord Kelvin, Thomas Edison and Gerald Durrell. We will even be creating out own brand of toothpastes to compare against real brands! Our P.E day is now back to Monday. Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school along with jogging bottoms/leggings and a zip up jacket/fleece as we will be going outside whenever we can. Children must also ensure they have suitable sports foot wear, trainers or pumps, due to health and safety they will not be able to participate if they don't have them in school.
Our swimming day is Tuesday so please make sure that the children have a full PE and swimming kit on these days.
Mrs Pickard will still be teaching French and R.E on a Thursday afternoon.
Mrs Shakespeare will also be coming in to teach recorders ever Tuesday morning.
